Yorkin River

The Yorkin River forms the natural boundary between Costa Rica and Panama during its course. The Yorkin River is one of the most spectacular rivers of Costa Rica.

Traveling on the Yorkin River allows you to look at waterfalls and organic crop plantations and to explore the verdant and lush green tropical rainforests.

The Yorkin River also allows you to interact with the indigenous people living on its banks and get to know more about them.

The Yorkin River is named after the village of Yorkin, which is inhabited by the indigenous Indian tribe of Bribri. You can catch hold of a guide at Bambu and he will take you up the Yorkin River on a canoe. Once you reach Yorkin, you can hike for about 20 minutes to reach the village and meet the Bribri people. These people are some of the warmest people that you will come across. They make chocolates from the cocoa beans that they grow here and will be glad to show you around. The chocolates that they make are unlike any you have tasted. They will also serve some excellent lunch for you.

Traveling on the canoe on the Yorkin River is an excellent experience for vacationers. The whole area is covered by large trees of the tropical rainforest. The entire area is green and pure. You can actually feel oxygen getting into your lungs. If you are a biologist or a botanist, then this area is a virtual treasure trove for you. You can spend months studying the trees and the hundreds and thousands species of animals and birds. Throughout the day and night the forest is alive with sounds of different animals and the chirping of birds.

Costa Rica is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and the Yorkin River adds to that beauty. The Yorkin River is also ideal for some gentle sailing and whitewater rafting. Going upstream on the river is an experience worth trying. Get hold of a local guide or any other tourist company and we can assure you that your vacations will become happier.
