Obviously there are a lot of people that just enjoy going to Costa Rica for the relaxation on the beaches and beautiful resorts that are around. However, Costa Rica isn’t limited to just that. If you are anything like me, you probably want to get outside and do some fun sporting activities that will let you truly see some unique things.
Zip Line Canopy Tours
This was the first and only time I have ever had the opportunity to do a zip line canopy tour. Being scared of heights I wasn’t exactly thrilled about it but my wife really wanted to do it so we gave it a shot. I was really impressed with how smooth the ride of a canopy tour is and how much fun they are! While you are fairly high up I felt very secure and the wild life and beautiful scenery kept my attention so I just avoided looking straight down.
Volcano Tours
There are a couple of them that you can do. There is the Arenal Volcano which I highly recommend. It is a full day tour so you will have to plan it into your schedule for sure. It’s not just something you do on a half-day. In fact, I would possibly even recommend booking one evening at the Tabacon Resort in La Fortuna. It has a balcony view of the Volcano which is extremely breathtaking. It is also close nearby so you will not have to do so much driving. The other volcano option is the Poas Volcano. It is near San Jose and fairly easy to access, but is also a day-long activity.
Horseback Riding
Many people want to see the unique rainforest that is throughout Costa Rica. We do not get the opportunity to see so much vegetation and animal life in one area when you are from the United States. However, the rain forest is absolutely beautiful. We decided we wanted to do a horseback ride which would allow us to cover a lot more area in a shorter amount of time. We did this and thought it was well worth the investment.
Sports Fishing
If you are an outdoorsman like myself, you probably enjoy the sport of fishing. Costa Rica has beautiful water surrounding it and it is easily one of the better fishing destinations I have been on. My wife and I both went deep sea fishing. There were a few options available, you could do a half day, which would keep you closer to shore. We opted for the all-day trip. We spent a good amount of time in calm water (for the ocean) with beautiful water catching fish each time we dropped our bait into the water.
