If the Spanish looked hard enough in parts of San Jose in Costa Rica, they’d find their El Dorado. A few miles from the La Fortuna airports lies a wealth of natural treasure – an active volcano, the most serene lake, winding river, splashing waterfalls and a thick array of rainforests.
Amidst all this abundance of natural beauty and magnificent panoramic views, lies the Lost Iguana Resort.
The Lost Iguana Resort is a small retreat and boutique hotel, amidst the 120 acres of primary jungle and rainforest located in Arenal, Costa Rica overlooking the active Arenal Volcano. With a clear view of the volcano, which last erupted in 2000, this resort is certainly a paradise on Earth. In comparison with Mount Fuji, the strato volcanic mountain at Arenal National Park might not be as grand, but satisfies the thousands of people that flock to the land for a quick getaway. If you are to come see these wonders, the Lost Iguana is the place to be.
Lost Iguana boasts a total of 42 rooms and accommodation units sparsely spread across the jungle engulfing it. These include standard sized rooms called the Standar Deluxe rooms with all amenities and a Luxury Suite for double accommodation. A small villa-like Celebrity suite and a much bigger accommodation unit Las Casitas are also available for groups of four people or more.

Each unit has a huge balcony, refrigerator, and air-conditioning and is topped with an extra-large Jacuzzi. Going with the amphibious theme, the resort offers a spa retreats called the Golden Gecko spa, which is a 3 acre affair next to the river.
Some of the services offered at the spa are: aromatherapy massage, deep tissue massage, and oddly named Yonka’s body wellness Ethiopian candle massage. You might also be able to get yourself a sauna and steam therapies while at the spa. The resort also features a bar that opens 3pm-5pm only and a gymnasium. Luxury and habitation is not the only thing Lost Iguana Resort excels. It provides excellent tour services to its visitors.
Just drop in at the reception and the receptionist will suggest a wide variety of tours and trails through and around the rainforest. You may also choose from activities such as rafting in the river, walking on hanging rope bridges and rock climbing near the La Fortuna waterfall. There is another attraction that most tourists try to visit. It’s called the Madman’s Maze. This maze is an 80 by 80 foot labyrinth made out of hibiscus plantation and rises up to its name – it can really make a normal person insane and mad.
With all the variety of activities available one would expect the resort to have a nice restaurant in its vicinity and so it does. The open-air restaurant with a view of the volcano is called the Blue Hibiscus Restaurant. For food lovers, it might be noted that the restaurant opens from 7am-10pm.
For any person who would want to forget their mundane lives and start afresh in a serene, yet exciting locale and understand the true meaning of fun, this is the place to be. Plus, many visitors to the resort have come back with one precious souvenir: an unforgettable and wonderful encounter with nature’s awe-inspiring gifts and treasures.
