San Jose city is the capital city of Costa Rica. It is considered as the commercial and cultural hub of the country, and is also the seat of political power of the country. San Jose city is located in the “Gran Area Metropolitana” on the highlands of the Central valley.
San Jose has a lot of hotels, restaurants, museums, Universities, airport, and also various embassies, belonging to different countries. San Jose is warm during most part of the year, and you will find the Talamanca mountain range in the southern parts of the city. This mountain range is called the “Cordillera de Talamanca”, and due to the moderate temperature and climate, makes it one of the most beautiful, and scenic places in Costa Rica.

There are four volcanoes that stand guard over the northern part of the valley. Most famous among these volcanoes are the Poas and Irazu and many tours are conducted to these volcanoes, from San Jose during day time. Just next to the Poas volcano, you can find the La Paz Waterfall garden park, called Peace lodge, and this lodge has a vast collection of butterflies. The town of Sarchi is located to the west, and this town is famous for its souvenir shops and artifacts that you can purchase as memories of your vacations in Costa Rica. There are many coffee shops available on the slopes of the northern mountain, and the famous Cafe Britt and the Doka Coffee estate is located over here.
In the east lies the town of Cartago and Orosi, where the country’s largest Catholic church is located. White water rafting is a popular sport in the Reventazon, and the Pacuare rivers, situated over here. Other activities that the tourist can indulge in the central valley are, taking hikes, visiting the waterfall, or visit the butterfly farm or visit the hummingbird gallery. As already mentioned, you can go rafting, or else can visit the Doka coffee estate, and learn the process of making coffee.
There are a lot of accommodations available in the mountains, around the central valley (San Jose), which offers a fantastic appeal to the visitors, who wish to be near the capital city, but still want to enjoy the peace, and serenity, of the valley. Some of the popular lodges in the valley are the Peace lodge, and the Silencio lodge. Some of the other hotels and lodges available in the valley are the Finca Rosa Blanca lodge, Villa Blanca, Xandari resort.
Some other activities available in the valley are Spa and Yoga, Canopy tours, Safari floats, horse back riding, and tours in the valley. So if you want to be near the city to enjoy the night life, and still be able to experience the calm, and serenity, then a stay at the valley is a must. This will be a life long experience for the tourist, and he will want to come back to Costa Rica again and again for vacations.
