When talking about an interactive trip to Costa Rica many things might come to mind such as culture, nature, history, art, etc… Which one to choose? That will ultimately depend on the kind of traveler that you are and what you are looking to obtain from your Costa Rica vacations.
Let us explore a few common alternatives to enjoy an interactive travel to Costa Rica.
Culture: Several small towns in Costa Rica still retain their traditions intact and have developed great ways to embrace tourism into their lifestyle without altering the town’s cultural landscape.
The towns of Grecia and Sarchi are vivid examples of this. Both cities are known as the “Artisan Center of Costa Rica” because the main business activity here is the elaboration of souvenirs and handicrafts, and despite what you might think, they don’t use advanced methods, rather use rustic manual procedures that have been shared by the locals from generation to generation. Grecia and Sarchi are located in the Costa Rica’s Central Valley about an hour drive from San Jose downtown. While visiting Grecia and Sarchi you won’t be able to resist buying a souvenir or two, as a solid memory of the beautiful time spent in Costa Rica.
Another cultural town is Arenal where traditions are commonly exhibit in the form of colonial style buildings and “Fiestas”. Arenal is a small quiet town in Alajuela, easily accessible from the capital city San Jose.
Nature: For those looking to have a closer approach to nature, Costa Rica is the ideal destination with ¼ of the country’s territory devoted to nature reserves, preservation areas and national parks. Thanks to these, Costa Rica has managed to become the permanent home for one of the richest biodiversities on the planet. Costa Rica hosts a total of 838 bird species and more than 10,000 plant species.
One of the favorite places for vacationers looking to interact with nature is the city of Monteverde, where daily tours are offered deep in the rainforest: canopy, hanging bridges, sky tram and sky trek, etc.
History, Art: Costa Rica offers an ample variety of museums, art galleries and theaters where local and international pieces are displayed every day. San Jose downtown is where most of these places can be found. A few examples are: “Museum of Costa Rican Art”, “Banco Central Museum”, “Jose Figueres Art Gallery”, “National Theater” and many more of incredible cultural and artistic value…
If you are travelling with little kids there is no better place to visit than the “Children Museum”, here kids can have the funniest but yet educational experience during their vacations.
