The small country of Costa Rica is fast becoming a tourist Mecca, with the dizzying variety of things it has to offer. There is surfing, kayaking, white-water rafting, sport fishing, with the sightseeing and shopping that a good vacation spot provides.

The town of Dominical is a good destination for those who don’t want to travel all over the country looking for new vacation experiences.

Located in South Puntarenas, Dominical is a tiny place, along a beautiful beach and right beside the last stand of Pacific coastal rainforest. Costa Rica’s rainforests are famous all over the world. Costa Rica is home to over 10,000 species of plants and trees and also a stunning variety of animals, birds, and sea creatures.

For such a small town, there are quite a few different activities available. You can take a horseback tour to visit the Nauyaca Waterfalls, or watch the surfers at the beach. Dominical is one of the best surfing spots anywhere and surfers come from all over the world. You can take a day trip to Cano Island for some diving, to see an impressive array of underwater life. You can go to Marino Ballena National Park to see whales, dolphins, sea turtles and other large sea creatures. Or visit Manuel Antonio National Park, with its incredible scenery and dazzling numbers of wildlife.

The weather in Costa Rica is sensational, averaging about 72 degrees F, year round. Travel is the very best between December and April. Many of the surfers who vacation in Dominical just sleep on the beach under the stars, but if this doesn’t appeal to you there are accommodations for all price ranges. There is even a special camp/hotel that includes a surfing school.

To investigate the lovely rainforest nearby you can take a canopy tour, in which you are up above the forest. Some canopy tours include walkways and skyways above the treetops, and even platforms on trees with zip lines between them. It’s very exciting if you are not faint-hearted. This sort of tour avoids any damage to the delicate ecosystem of the rainforest, rather than hiking through the forest on foot, which can be somewhat dark too.

If sport fishing is an interest, the Costa Ballena vicinity is becoming well known as a great fishing place, especially good for sailfish, though there is also Mahi Mahi, marlins (blue and black) and large tuna, as well as other fish.

If your vacation travel plans include Costa Rica, you can´t go wrong with choosing Dominical as your destination.
