There are very few destinations on earth that offer a purity of natural wonder as Guanacaste, Costa Rica. This region of Costa Rica is a protected environment that allows people in to partake of nature at its best. Costa Rica is a prime example of how well an Eco-tourism project can work.

Guanacaste is really quite an easy vacations spot to reach.

With international flights from many U.S. cities flying into Liberia daily, there is no reason not to go. To avoid the wet season, travel is recommended between November to April. No matter which month you travel in remember to bring along a very good camera, and your smile. You will be using both on a regular basis.

There are many beaches along the North Pacific Coast of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Depending upon the beach visited, one will find sand ranging in color from white, all the way to black. These dramatic colors only enhance the natural beauty of these beach areas. Anything one could dream of to do on, in, or under the water, can be discovered here. All the dive tours are certified and range from beginner to expert. The sea charter fishing tours offer a chance to hook the big ones for the sport fisherman, Marlin, Tuna, and Sailfish all swim in these waters.

Further inland can be found some of the most beautiful Natural Parks on earth. Vacationing in this region will offer the traveler a choice of taking it slow and easy, or a more robust adventure. Over 13% of Guanacaste is National Parks area, so there is much to choose from.

Palo Verde National Park, is located 30 km west of Canas. Reportedly the home of more bird species than any other place in Central America. This park is mostly wet lands and dry forest. The best way to observe the wildlife is by a two hour boat trip on the Tempisque River. These guided tours offer plenty of opportunities to photograph the monkeys and the birds.

Rincon de la Vieja National Park is located 27 km northeast of Liberia. This is the home of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. With a summit that soars almost 2000 meters above the floor of the rainforest, it offers a challenge to those wishing to reach the top. Few do, the change in altitude deters most people. But the ones who make it to the top, have plenty to brag about. The views are awesome. For those who do decide to go all the way, the 4 hour trek will offer scenery like pristine lagoons, where wildlife often gather to drink. One can explore the area and discover hot water springs, and mud pools. Watch the action as they bubble and react to active volcano gasses. There are several varieties of rare butterflies that make this area their home. The park is closed on Mondays, so remember that when planning your vacations.

Other options inside the park include white water rafting, caving, horse back riding, and waterfall rappelling. This one is for the serious outdoors man or woman. Rappel down into pristine canyons, few humans have entered.

Each of these would be the highlight of vacations, one can do them all in this one area. All it takes is getting there.

No longer in Guanacaste but in the nearby province of Alajuela you can find the Arenal Volcano National Park, with its active volcano. This volcano gives a nightly light show of flowing lava, and tossing glowing boulders into the air. In the daytime one can take a tour on a air gondola and soar over the rain forest below. Once you reach the viewing platform, the vista is breathtaking. When it is time to leave, the brave may take an alternate route to the bottom. Strung between the trees are cables which allow one to zip through the rain forest in an exhilarating ride of a lifetime. Everybody needs to do it at least once.
