Costa Rica is a beautiful country located in Central America. This country has a tropical climate and is home to a variety of wildlife. Many people travel to Costa Rica to visit its multiple wildlife reserves.

One of the most popular reserves to visit while on Costa Rica vacations is the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.

This reserve claims over one hundred species of mammals, four hundred species of birds, two thousand five hundred species of plants, and thousands of insects. This reserve offers both public and private guided tours through the forest. There are also scheduled Early Morning Bird Watching Tours. Visitors may also use one of the trail maps to walk the trails themselves. Some of the animals that have been sighted in this reserve are ocelots, jaguars, resplendent quetzals and Baird’s tapirs. There are also exhibits nearby such as a butterfly garden and a bat jungle.

Another popular place to visit in Costa Rica is Lapa Rios. The nearby reserve offers a number of guided tours and even has a Night Walk tour. Visitors may also walk some of the self-guided trails. Visitors may spend whole vacations at this reserve if they stay in one of the Lapa Rios bungalows. This reserve also offers botanical gardens, the Golfo Dulce Dolphin Tour, and a variety of other activities. This place has a lot to offer to travelers interested in the wildlife and biodiversity found in Costa Rica.

Rainsong Wildlife Sanctuary is also a great place to experience nature in Costa Rica. This reserve has a large variety of wildlife and even has a special Rare Bird Release Program. Rainsong provides a home for an array of animals. Everything from howler monkeys to anteaters can be found here. They offer wildlife and bird watching walking tours as well as horseback nature tours. Volunteering is also a major part of Rainsong. If you are going to be in Costa Rica for awhile, volunteering offers a very rewarding experience.

Tierra Hermosa is also a very dedicated wildlife reserve. This reserve is home to an array of bird species, as well as some mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. Visitors can see species such as the Great Green Macaw or the Chestnut-billed Toucan. This beautiful reserve is relatively new and makes a great place to visit.

These are just a few of the wildlife reserves one can find while on vacations in Costa Rica. This country has beautiful forests with abundant wildlife. These reserves do a great service both to the flora and fauna they protect and to those that would like to visit and learn about them.
