Last week the ICT (The Costa Rica Tourist Board) launched a new advertising campaign under the slogan “Costa Rica’s Million Dollar Gift of Happiness”. This new publicity is mainly focus to the United States and Canada where the ICT will look to promote Costa Rica as the “Happiest Nation on Earth”. The most interesting aspect about this publicity is that for a limited time the ICT will be also gifting hundreds of free trips.

Costa Rica: National Stadium’s Official Inauguration

During the next couple of weeks Costa Rica will be celebrating the inauguration of its new National Stadium, located in the metropolitan park of La Sabana in downtown San Jose, the new structure is replacing the old stadium that used to be located on the same grounds.

This new stadium was entirely donated by the Government of China.

Democracy Stained by Voter’s Apathy in Costa Rica

Yesterday (Dec, 5) Costa Rica celebrated the municipal elections. The OEA (Organization of American States) praised the process but regretted the low participation. 72% of the voters decided not to participate; this is an overwhelming number that according to experts can be attributed to the lack of trust in the country’s political authorities.

The ICT (Instituto Costarricense de Turismo) has recently released their new video called “Costa Rica: Five Senses”. The video is part of a new campaign launched by ICT that aims to attract more visitors to Costa Rica during the high season.

The video promotes the most popular tourist destinations in the country and it´s duration is 6:43 minutes.

Concert Night: Fans Fascinated by Green Day´s Performance in Costa Rica

The North American rock band “Green Day” went the extra mile for their fans in Costa Rica. The concert started at 8pm yesterday and ended past midnight, the event was held in the Saprissa stadium located in Tibas, Costa Rica. Despite the considerably low attendance to the concert, the band gave it all to their fans, who were not disappointed. It is the opinion of many that this might’ve easily been the concert of the year in Costa Rica.

New Road to Caldera Temporarily Closed

The pounding rains of the last weeks in Costa Rica have made the new road to Caldera unsafe for driving. A major landslide occurred on kilometer 47 and has forced the Costa Rican authorities (Conavi) to postpone the road´s reopening until Tuesday next week. Instead of rebuilding the collapsed parts of the road the authorities decided to place two “bailey” type bridges.

Black Culture Festival Seeks to Keep Traditions Alive

From August 26 until 31st the Limon province will commemorate “El dia del Negro” (Black Culture Day). The festivities will include music, parades, and concerts, among other cultural activities. The entire week will be dedicated to celebrating black culture in Costa Rica. The slogan of this year’s festival is “Back to the roots” which refers to the main purpose of this celebration that is to keep traditions alive.
