Nearby, you can spend a day visiting the local wildlife, which includes huge salt water gators and colorful macaws. Carara Biological Reserve, about ten miles to the north of Jaco is one of the best places to view these exotic creatures at sunrise and sunset. Another entertaining activity is horseback riding along the seashore where the horses are well trained and can handle shallow water without fear. There are also many places to hike, and local tour guides offer treks to the nearby rivers and waterfalls.

Dolphins and whales populate Drake Bay and are easy to spot aboard a half day cruise throughout the waterway. Humpback whales and bottlenose dolphins are popular here and are a fun experience for both kids and adults alike. It's easy to sit back and relax while watching the exotic animals swim among the blue Pacific waters.

Nightlife abounds in Jaco Beach. After a full day of sitting in the sun or touring the local fauna, plenty of options are available in this small town. For a nice spot to catch a local sunset you might want to try out Costa Rica Hotel, Bar, and Restaurant. If there by 5 P.M. you can drink a cold one while waiting for the setting sun. They also have breakfast, lunch, and a dinner menu which won’t stretch your wallet. Once the sun is down, they have a full service bar with plenty of activities such as billiards, darts, and outside horseshoes and their waitresses will serve you outside.

Planning an all-nighter in Jaco isn’t hard as you can begin at 9P.M. at the Beatle Bar where there’s no cover. The Beatle Bar is an American themed bar where folks gather around the taps and the people looking for some quiet hang out towards the pool tables in the back.

The Nacho Daddy’s Disco features two dance rooms and the club stays open until 3A.M. You can dance to reggae, Latin, hip hop and rap. Whatever your preference, there is a different music style in each room. To end the night, stop by Pacho Villa Bar/Restaurant until sunrise if that’s your choice. If you wake up early enough, you can beat the sun and get a good meal before starting the day.

During the day, a nice place to stop and take a break from all the fun activities is the Pachi's Pan which has a wide variety of fresh coffee, cappuccinos, pastries, and fresh bread. Another good cafe in Jaco is the Cafe del Mar located by the beach. Sit back, sip some brew, and relax before heading out for more excitement.
