Monteverde - Costa Rica

If you want to have quality time with your family, you should consider traveling to Monteverde in Costa Rica.

Monteverde Cloud Forest

One attraction near the town is the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. The place itself is like a Garden of Eden with its rich plant and animal life that occupies an area of 10,500 hectares.

If you think about it that is a lot of ground to cover so one of the things you can do here is rent a horse and ride along the various trails. As you go further, you will surely enjoy the picturesque scenery especially when you see the sun go up in the morning or set late in the afternoon.

For tourists like yourself who are not tired riding a horse, you can continue on your adventure way into the evening by signing up for the Hidden Valley Tour. This will give you the opportunity to visit the forest after dark and see certain animals that only come out during the night.

Another way to explore the Forest Reserve is by riding a bike. These come in different sizes so you are sure to find one that is right for your age and height. At an approx rate of $2 each, you also get a helmet, water bottle, weather proof jacket and night light.

For those that want to see butterflies, you can visit the Monteverde “Mariposario” Butterfly Garden. The garden is located in Cerro Plano in the middle of the town of Santa Elena and the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Not far from the Monteverde Forest Reserve is the Monteverde Bat Jungle. Here, you will get to know a little more about bats like what they eat, what differentiates one from the other and a lot more by listening to volunteers and experts that work here.

Monteverde Tour

Most of the coffee that you buy from the supermarket or coffee shop are grown and harvested from South Africa. While you are here, you can see first hand how this is done especially when you join the Monteverde Coffee Tour. The best part of the tour is heading back to the retail coffee shop and taste the variety of roasts they have to offer. Who knows? You might find something you like and then bring this with you back home.

While you are in town, drop by the Monteverde Cheese Factory and see how this is made. Aside from cheese, some of this is made into ice cream and you can even taste some of it.

You won't feel bad traveling a few hundred miles away from the town of Monteverde when you get to see the Arenal Volcano. This volcano has been active since 1968 with lava and rocks still spewing out everyday, it is a sight to see when you get to watch it at night!

After taking pictures and visiting the local attractions, don't forget to drop by the one of the local gift shops. Inside, you will find here a few gifts and souvenirs that you won't find anywhere else which are sure to impress those you decide to give back home.
