Rainforest Tours in Costa Rica

Small Costa Rica could be called a tropical paradise, and it is becoming more and more popular as a tourist destination. It is home to a jaw-dropping variety of animals and plants (5% of the biodiversity of the world) and has spectacular scenery including rivers, volcanoes, lovely beaches and three kinds of forest: cloud forest, rainforest and tropical dry forest. Costa Rica is very eco-conscious as well, and attempts to properly steward its considerable natural riches.

There is a wide variety of activities to entertain, relax and challenge the tourist, a few of which are hanging bridges, waterfall rappelling, sky tram and sky trek, bird watching, etc. There are a number of tours available, among them hiking to the top of one of Costa Rica's volcanoes. All guides are bilingual on all the tours.

Costa Rica RainforestHowever, to truly understand what makes Costa Rica such a jewel in Central America, it is highly recommended to take the rainforest tours, although cloud forest tours are also available. The rainforest is where one sees the plants and wildlife that make Costa Rica famous all over the world, and it's hard to imagine that a trip to Costa Rica would be complete without the rainforest tours.

It might seem to the traveler that to see the rainforest properly one must hike through it. Nothing could be further from the truth! In the interest of taking care of the rainforest, and also of providing an exciting and memorable experience for tourists, there are the famous Canopy Tours, offered by a number of local rainforest tours guides. These tours were developed by scientists with preservation in mind, and provide one with a stunning view of the forest that doesn't cause any damage to this fragile ecosystem.

Instead of hiking through the forest, which can be rather dark due to the heavy vegetation and foliage, the Canopy Tours take tourists up to the very tops of the trees for an amazing view. There are numerous walkways/skyways, platforms and bridges to walk on, and for the adventurous there is a series of zip lines between platforms on trees, exciting but perhaps not for the faint of heart. One returns home with unforgettable memories of the time spent in Costa Rica.
