San Jose City - Costa Rica
You should plan a delightful vacation to San Jose, which is the Capital of Costa Rica. The best time to see the sights in San Jose is between December and April when the temperature averages a balmy 72 degrees. This is an ideal time for taking a vacation to see all the amazing mercados, theatres, museums and shopping that San Jose has to offer you.

One of your first stops to get to know a little bit about the amazing city of San Jose, should be to visit some of their well known museums. The Museo de Arte Costarricense exhibits over 2,500 pieces of paintings, sculptures and unique wood carvings. Make a point to visit the Galeria Ocelote, which show cases all kinds of handcrafted sculptures, ceramics and fantastic textile designs from Latin America.
Navigating your way around in San Jose is very easy compared to some other cities because it was designed and built around a standard grid system. You can easily walk to most destinations within the city, but if you prefer you can obtain a car rental or check out their excellent bus system.
San Jose boasts another unusual activity to see which is the "Butterfly Farm". The farm is actually an enclosed garden where you can view as many as 80 types of butterflies. Many of the hotels in San Jose offer daily bus tours right to the Butterfly Farm, making it very convenient for tourists.
The downtown area of San Jose is also home to many fine markets which are easily accessible on foot for tourists. One such market is the Mercado Central which sits at the end of the pedestrian mall. There is a mixed assortment of things to shop for such as clothes, jewelry, vegetables and fresh meats. You can even pick up some fresh flowers for your hotel room and maybe find some interesting crafts that are handmade by the local artisans.
San Jose’s culture is rich with theaters and they are very popular with the locals and the tourists. While you are on your Costa Rica vacation you will want to be sure to visit the National Theatre in San Jose. The theatre was built back in 1897, complete with many fine statues. The interior displays many fine murals, paintings along with marble staircases and it has rich gold ceilings. They offer unique musical performances on a frequent basis.
Another cultural landmark that you might want to take in while you're on your Costa Rica vacations is the Metropolitan Cathedral, which was built in 1871 by Eusebio Rodriguez. It is located in the Central Valley of San Jose and it is the largest church in the city.
You cannot go wrong planning a vacation to San Jose where you can visit all kinds of mercados, fine theaters and historical art museums.
