Water Sports Tours in Costa Rica

Of all the countries in Central America, Costa Rica remains a virtual jewel. Costa Rica is blessed with rich tropical mountains forested with lush jungles and inhabited by an endless variety of wildlife, birds and reptiles. There are hiking trails to trek, rivers to fish, caves to explore and zip-line tours through the canopies. Although the interior has an endless variety of attractions, the majority of visitors come to this promised land for the water sports.

Costa Rica has hundreds of miles of coastlines on both the Pacific and the Caribbean Sea and there is something for everyone. Costa Rica big game fishing is without a doubt some of the best in the world and anglers come from all over the world in pursuit of Blue marlin, beautiful sailfish, delicious dorado and tasty tuna. Charter fishing boats are available in every area on both coasts; Costa Rica is a true fisherman’s paradise!

Water Sports Tours in Costa RicaWorld cruisers coming through the Panama Canal and those returning from the South Pacific and Hawaii, set course to Costa Rica to enjoy the fair winds and calm seas. For the visitor, there are hundreds of charter sailboats available for day sailing, extended sailing trips and sunset cruises.

For the wave riders, Costa Rica has some of the best surfing in the world and there are waves for every level of experience. The entire coastline offers literally thousands of beach breaks and there are river mouth breaks galore. Costa Rica has always supported its surfing community with many surf shops, board rentals and instruction.

Scuba diving and snorkeling in Costa Rica is a practiced art and although much of the Pacific side is plagued with low visibility there are some excellent sites. Cano Island out of Drake bay offers year around diving with warm clear water and Cocos Island, hundreds of miles offshore is a world class diving destination. The Caribbean side offers exceptional reef diving but is much less developed.

For river rafting and kayaking, Costa Rica can’t be beat. There are rivers that offer easy float trips through the tropical jungles and for the avid whitewater enthusiast there are white knuckle, class five rapids that will make your hair stand on end. The many river operators offer good equipment, are very safety conscious and provide excellent guides.
